The Hammock
by Victoria Ramsey

The sunset displays its wardrobe as it waltzes across the sky
Shades of blue and yellow, pink, purple and some gray
Out here in this red hammock, under the oak tree where I lay
I listen to the the sound of night, frogs, crickets and a coyotes howl
I know that this is meant to be, I am at peace right now
When I am in the city I can’t see the stars at night
Just the silhouette of buildings and the glare of city light
The croaks, the chirps, the baying are replaced by traffic noise
I’ll spend my time here in this hammock , there, l’ve made my choice

Purple haze

Fog settles on the land shrouding the countryside in secrecy
Silent, wet, concealing haze, daylight cannot penetrate
Total silence surrounds me, I alone exist, hidden in this murky void
Insignificant, feeling small, am I really here at all

Winter gardens

The beauty of the winter garden holds me in such awe
Snowdrifts and ice sculptures changing with each thaw
Ornamental grasses peek out to find the sun aglow
This winter garden fast asleep beneath its blanket of deep snowImagewritings pImageImage

Colors of the night

Where did you get that wardrobe that you parade across the sky
All the newest colors and all the current styles
Pastel pinks and yellows, blues and deep maroons
Frilly chiffon party dresses to waltz before the moon
When there is no party, the moon hides behind the clouds
You dress up in your basic black adorned with classic pearlsImage

Joy

I found my joy today while sitting on the beach
Wind blowing my hair around, sand covering my feet
Pelicans stand sentry on wooden posts, hot sun burning brown my back
Mullet jumping in the surf, seagulls diving to attack
A dolphin dives below the surface and leaps above the waves
Tugboats crossing the horizon on journeys long to memories make
The peace and the tranquility, the calm that soothes my heart
My God he made this all for me, the sun, the sand, the sea
I promise Lord to tend and share and cherish my small part

Dropping by.

Sit with me and share my day, would you like some coffee
Excuse me just a moment while I go in and get a cup
Look here comes ole Martha dragging that stray pup
Tell me how your week has been
I’ll tell you about my health
We’ll talk about the government and how they spend, spend, spend
Have you been out hunting, I haven’t had a chance
I spent the last two weeks clearing out new pasture land
Well the sun is getting low, the days about to end
Thanks for dropping by today, I appreciate it friendImage
